Hi, I'm restoring a 1966 Converible with AC. I have disassembled the complete system and will change all the hoses to barrier hoses, new condenser, new expansion valve and flushing the Evaporator. I will fill the system with R134a to 80% of the R12 level as recomended. However, the shop manual does not describe the valve mechanism that is part of the sight glass where it connects to the dryer. Does anyone know what this valve was suppose to do? Can I eliminate it and the sight glass? It appears to close when taking the sight glass off the dyrer but opens completely when the sight glass is refitted to the dryer. My guess it is some sort of factory shipping valve for the condenser but ??
