1965 VIN to door tag decoding?

Hi All, does anyone know if you can obtain the original door tag info from the VIN for 1965 Thunderbird?

I recently purchased a 1965 but the door tag is missing, long gone I was told. It would be nice to know the original color and options info.

If you can find thr ROT sheet between the springs on your back seat most of that information can be found on the first line

Thank you but unfortunately those types of things are also gone.

After looking into this a bit, I realize now that the unit number (last 6 digits in the VIN) seems to be the only way to find the door tag info (body color, trim codes, trans/axle...). This convertible came to me with cruise control, power antenna and a roadster back seat cover which seems kind of rare to me (I realize that the roadster covers may be aftermarket, but it is definitely old).

Any insight in finding my lost door tag info would be much appreciated.

Do you know the VIN number? If not, it should be stamped into the radiator support/front of car near the battery. (It’s often covered with paint and hard to find). Send the VIN number to “The Marti Report people” and they may be able to tell you what you have, and make a new door tag.

Oh yes, I do have the VIN number. I hope the last six numbers of that can be deciphered into the door tag info. Thank you.

Unless I'm missing something, I don't see any way that you could determine the body/door tag information from the last 6 digits of the VIN. The last six digits are just the consecutive unit production number of the car (beginning with 100000). The Marti Report mentioned by Big Clay is your best bet because they can send you the original dealer invoice with all the details, and even print you a copy of the original window sticker. That invoice will show some options that aren't included on the door tag, of course. For example, it showed my '65 originally came with whitewall redline tires. Those would be cool to get someday!
