Have stock exhaust system on my 1965. Large mufflers at rear are rotting through. Would like to have some exhaust sound, not so quiet. Saw and heard 1964 that had rear mufflers removed, and sounded real nice. A subtle roar. Owner did not know anything about exhaust system. So, possibly had front mufflers/resonators replaced with special mufflers. Anyone done anything to make for a better exhaust sound than just stock for 1964-1966?

I have a 65 Convertible. I replaced the original mufflers with glass packs and had them moved to a location under the middle of the car after seeing that done on some Birds. There is plenty of room there. By putting them there it removed the harshness and they have a great mellow sound without being in your face.

I have two 1-foot-long glass pacs on my 62 with the 390, and it drives quiet but will sound really nice revving i,t and if you really rev it will rap a bit.

I have magnaflows with x pipe on my '64 and they're pretty nice. Not as loud as some but sounds healthy.

Thanks for replies. From my experience, over time the glass packs will lose the packing material and get louder. Will look into Magnaflows. Open to other options. Anyone just remove rear pair of mufflers?

If my '64 came with resonators, they were history when I bought it. Resonators strike me as unnecessary and potentially restrictive to exhaust flow. If your existing mufflers are old, they may be restrictive as well.
