After years of sitting I finally got around to restoring and reassembling my engine bay — with this mystery bracket left over. What is it and where should it go? Or did it just land in the wrong box? Thanks!

A follow up to my own question: I ran a picture of the part through Google AI. Here’s what it said:
This specific component is the Air Conditioning Compressor Idler/Adjuster Pulley Pivot Bracket for the 1965 Ford Thunderbird 390 FE engine. [1, 2]
On a 1965 Thunderbird equipped with factory air conditioning, the large A/C compressor is mounted high on the driver-side cylinder head, directly above the power steering pump. Because of this layout, Ford utilized a dedicated, separate V-belt line to drive the compressor. This compact, heavy-gauge U-shaped bracket acts as the structural saddle anchor for the manual idler pulley assembly used to set and lock the tension on that A/C compressor belt. [1, 2]

Does this make any sense at all? I’ve used AI on parts identification. It’s helpful but often wrong.
