Hi all. When I bought my '64 T Bird, the previous owner had disconnected the vacuum to the emergency brake release and told me it was dangerous because these T Birds tend to drop from park into reverse by themselves. Since then, I've read what I can find on this issue and it appears the real culprit is worn shift mechanisms. Catalogues like Bird Nest and T Bird Headquarters have kits to replace the shift detant (sp?) and various bushings in the steering column. Have any of you guys run across this issue?
For now, I'm leaving the vacuum emergency brake release disconnected. I've added a lever to extend the manual release lever so it is easier to operate and it works just fine.
