Just wondering if these cars ever came with overdrive? or has anyone added it to these cars?

Put the model year in the subject and summarize your post. I edited for you. "Flarebird overdrive" could mean anything.

Agree it could sure use an overdrive to lower the revs at highway speed. Alternatively, crank up the stereo🙂

There was no overdrive that I know of, at least for this series. I think all of these cars were automatics, including the export models. Whether or not a newer tranny would bolt up, nice idea I suppose. Agreed it would make a nice resto-mod to put a modern transmission in it, and fuel injection in place of the carb. I'm sure it would improve on gas -- but how much I don't know. As for cranking up the stereo, I just got home from a car show, and yes -- stereo was playing a Saturday night dance party on an HD channel.

There might be an OD unit that bolts between the tranny and differential. Alternatively, perhaps a more modern Ford AOD tranny would work with an adapter plate, tranny mounts and shift mechanism adaptation.

Have you looked into an over/under drive set up? i was planning a c6 upgrade with one. they are about 3k but it more or less splits gears and adds an overdrive to each gear. these are the ones i was thinking of.
