New owner here. I'll try calling the previous owner tomorrow. Limped this to the shop, and just got it out, so just getting used to the car. So there are 3 drive settings? a D a green D and 2 which is low? is the green dot D some kind of pre over drive?

The Cruise-O-Matic transmission featured the green dot where the tranny would have 1-2-3 gears, while in D the transmission would start in second gear and shift to high.

I think it's the same transmission as my 64. It's the DUAL RANGE Cruise-O-Matic. You've got big dot and little dot, then low. Low is first gear only. I believe it's little dot that gives you two speeds, the idea is to limit torque if you're starting in ice, snow, or mud. The big dot is three speeds which is the normal drive setting. For my 64, ther big dot is next to L. I think for 65 it's reversed and is in the normalk D position. I guess it's one of Ford's better ideas that didn't catch on.

I have attached pages out of the owners manual explaining the dots. I hope they are readable and in order. Good luck with your new purchase.

Yes, and...if you're going over around 25 mph and pull the shifter into the "L" position, the trans will lock in second gear. If you drop below 25mph, it'll shift into first gear. Ford had a better idea but probably not this one.

That’s why I recently purchased a C-6!

I have a '90 Mustang with an AOD that's similar, only the shift point is 31 mph.
