I am planning on installing new leaf springs and I can’t figure out a good location to place the jack stands while I let the suspension hang. Normally I would just put them under the axle but that won’t work in this situation. When charging a tire you are supposed to use a bumper jack according to the manual but I don’t feel comfortable going that route. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions?

I saw that after someone else pointed me towards the shop manual but that seems like a very precarious place to put a pair of jack stands. It seems like those were meant for a lift that lifts from all 4 points evenly. It seems like if I just put 2 jack stands in front of the rear tire that the angle would be too great. I guess I could put the front tires on ramps so that the car would sit level. The shop manual also mentions a rear cross brace that is behind the gas tank that can be used but I haven’t gotten a chance recently to poke my head under there to look.

Yes you are correct about the lift. I drove the car up on ramps first. Then jacked car up from rear , put stands under rear axle then jacked car up a little more up front off the ramps put stands at lift points , then moved rear stands from under axel to lift points. A lot of work when you don't have a lift. And will not work if your car is not running. Hope this helps. I don't use cheap stands.
