1962 Instrument Panel Extension Finish Panels (i.e. Dash Aluminum Trim) Adhesive?

Hello Folks,

I'm putting the instrument panel/dashboard back together on my 1962 Convertible after my recent heater core repair adventure.

The instrument panel extension finish panels (i.e. the Dash aluminum Trim) was bonded to the dash structure with what appears to be body sealer (or dum-dum, as I know it). Is that correct, and should I reuse the sealer that is still adhering to the panels, or remove it and replace it with fresh sealer?

If that is not correct, what adhesive should be used to adhere the dash trim to the metal dash frame?

Thanks in advance!

Actually, no. The aluminum trim is held to the instrument panel extensions by the edge moldings and some sort of adhesive.
