1962 Heater/Evaporator removal issue

Forgive me if I’m naming this thing incorrectly, but that silver thing is completely obstructing my ability to remove the last 2 wire harnesses. I have the shop manual, and perhaps it’s user error but I cannot figure out how to remove this dang thing. Would anyone have advice or some direction/details on removing this thing? Thanks in advance!

I don't envy you. It looks like the whole plenum should come out in one piece but how to get around all that stuff is a head scratcher.
