I'm getting ready to replace my trunk mat and my insulation beneath the plaid vinyl is very hard and i doubt it is doing much good. It sounds as if the replacement trunk mats you buy do not include this insulation, only the houndstooth vinyl. Correct me if you know otherwise. but assuming I'm right has anyone done a trunk replacement and A) did you have any trouble using the new mats with the old insulation or B) did you replace the old insulation with new insulation and where did you find it? Thank you.

Don't think of it as insulation. It is sound deadening material. I'd leave it in place. When replacing my quarter panels, I found a sheet of such stuff which had fallen down from the fender. Silenced the sound of splashing inside the fenders.
