I have a 352 engine in my 59. Several months ago I asked the Forum what to do about noisy lifters. Several people kindly responded with try Marvels Mystery Oil and after a month or two they should quiet down. So I did that and after many months the lifters are as noisy as ever. What do you suggest I do? Should I get a valve replacement job or do the lifters just need adjusting? Can any garage do that, or does it take a garage familiar with these older cars? Thank you so much.

They are easy to adjust and that would be the first thing I would do. It's a simple process that any experienced mechanic can handle after they read the instructions, which are very simple. There are two ways, engine off and engine on. I usually do it with engine running as it's fast and easy but can be messy since there will be some oil flying around with the valve cover off.

Paul, have you had the valve covers off yet? Some of the early F/E engines had adjustable rockers with hydraulic lifters. If you do you can try to adjust them. But it sounds like you may need a Cam and lifters. How is your oil pressure?

I have not had the valve covers off yet. Oil pressure is good as much as I can tell since it's only an idiot light. I'll pull the valve covers and check to see if my rockers are adjustable. Thank you.

You're welcome! While you are at it, the oil pressure sensor is right above the oil filter, you can take it out and hook up an oil pressure gauge and test it.
