Need advice. Was driving ing about 55mph and solid oil pressure light came on suddenly. No prior history of low pressure. Is likely issue with pump drive rod?
There were no odd noises coming from engine prior to light coming on.
Thanks in advance.

You don't indicate if when the lite came on you then heard a noise. If there was no noise or is no noise then the problem lies in the oil sending unit or possibly the the wire. I don't think it would take very long for you to hear noises if you had a mechanical problem.

Remove the sensor and connect a mechanical gauge. Start engine and check oil pressure before coming to any conclusions.
The only way to have an issue with the pump drive rod is to shear it. But normally the roll pin in the distributor drive gear fails first. This would also kill the engine.

No odd noises before or after. Will check with mechanical gauge, although I did already replace pressure switch with new one.

I also would check with mechanical gauge. To confirm and know your idle pressure and maybe at 2K RPMs
