1957 loud power steering pump

Hi has anyone changed the power steering pump on a 57 to a later pump. I think ours is getting way too noisy.
Before changing it,just make sure it's not low on fluid and is grabbing air. If the pump is bad, changing it is an easy but messy job. Your guaranteed to spill fluid. You can start by disconnecting the return line and have someone start the engine so you pumpm as much fluid as possible into a container.Of course you don't reuse the old fluid no matter how nicee it might look and don't change the pump on a hot engine. Have fun!

Thanks, the fluid levels all good, the pump sounds like an early truck gearbox that's been run dry of oil. Turning the steering wheel does not have any effect on it.

Never tried a Borgeson pump but if they have a kit for you can, they are a very good company. You might also think about an oil cooler kit. In later years Ford installed them at the factory.

Borgeson have a bolt on pump advertised quite a bit cheaper than a rebuilt pump. Also it would save me at least 200 dollars shipping my old pump to the USA and return freight to NZ. I'll call them next week to get the complete details.

Hello
I had one put on my 57 a a bit ago. There is a thread about it. It now steers like a modern car, and no leaks.
Thanks, I really only want to use one of their pumps, for me to change the steering box creates huge issues with compliance in NZ
