1957 bird how to tell the difference between the left and right inter tie rods

I thought they could only go on one way, so the threaded end points to the rear and the "elbow" is down? Maybe someone else can state that better than I can...
The accountants or someone intervened in later years and inners lost the "elbow", so as straight equal length parts they could be ambidextrous.
