What is the difference between a left hand exhaust manifold 9431- EDB and ECJ? Passenger car vs. thunderbird application?

The Thunderbird exhaust manifold has a different shape at the outlet to the exhaust pipe to miss the steering components on the Thunderbird.

And the clutch mechanisms? Unfortunately you don’t realize it the first time until you try and assemble everything. UGH

Yes, it is a clearance issue. If the passenger car one would fit, there would be no reason to make a special one for the Thunderbird.

Actually, the power brake booster was also mounted on the fender in the 1955 and 1956 model year passenger cars, Those used the same Midland power brake booster that was used on the Thunderbird. Only the Mounting bracket was different. Ford used the Midland booster in the 1957 Thunderbird as well, but used a Kelsey Hayes booster in the Ford passenger cars that was a bellows unit located under the dash.

The day is not wasted, I learned something new. Judging by my '57 shop manual it didn't reference that. There were many changes made to the '57 vs the 55-56 although many don't show other than the longer rear fenders.
