1957 gas tank leak

I got a stainless steel tank ($199 Auto City Classics) and new straps. Between the straps and tank, I put a thin strip of teflon as an insulator between the straps and tank to prevent dust getting between the tank and straps and to prevent corrosion from dissimilar metals. You can probably use some other gasket material like cork or silicone tape. You may consider painting the straps with magnetic paint too as a rust inhibitor. You might want to replace any flex lines and the in-line fuel filter should probably be R&Rd too. Also, using compressed air, blow out (backwards) the lines when the tank is out to remove any sediments.

Mine will leak from the top gage sending unit access when filled but not enough to create a drip.

Cruising Range? 160-180, I try and refill at 160
@MRansom how many gallons (or what does your gas gauge read) do you estimate you put in your tank to get your cruising range of 160-180 miles?

Page 2-94 of the 1957 Ford Car and Thunderbird Shop Manual list Thunderbird gas tanks hold 20 gallons.

Just recently I've experienced a leak when filling to the full mark on my gas gauge. Dripping occurs from the tanks front facing edge & from the point where the filler neck enters the tank on the right rear of the tank. Catching the gas in containers, about 1.5 gallons leaks out before it stops leaking.

So given the tank should hold 20 gallons each quarter tank is about 5 gallons. I'm trying to figure how close to 20 gallons will avoid this leak. Maybe 17- 18 gallons?
