1957 excess oil pressure

57 312 is squirting oil out by filter after replacing oil pump, tried a second pump, no help. Any suggestions?

Does it have spin on filter and did you remove and replace the adaptor parts as part of the oil pump RR? I have heard people say the gasket under the adaptor plate sometimes blows out. To my knowlege that is replaceable without touching the oil pump. Some say not to use a rubber o-ring there but use a fiber gasket style.

Pressure relief valve is stuck

Where is the pressure relief valve and how does it work? Where does it relive the pressure to? Thanks in advance!

It's located inside the pump, held in place by a spring and a bolt. I did try another pump, but the same thing happened. The original pump was a Melling M-42. I've ordered an Elgin T-6600-1, hopefully that will take care of the problem.
