Can't seem to resolve a leaky oil filter. Changed the oil, new F-1 filter, leaks from filter. Over tightened? Under tightened? replaced the new one with another new one tried to hand tighten but more leaking when running. Tightened with the tool and it's better but still leaks when running - like ounces not drops. Any suggestions?

The modern oil filters are not what was original on the early birds, so you probably have an adapter between the oil filters and the engine block and that is what is leaking. You will need to remove the adapter and replace the seal/gasket where it contacts the engine block and that should solve your problem. However it is an old Ford and as you solve one leak another will probably appear. Hope this helps.

Pictures also help. Are you sure it's not leaking from above the filter?

Do not take offense at this question, but did the old filter gasket stick to the fitting when you removed it thereby doubling up the gaskets? I had a friend who had that problem.

The search forum button on the upper right corner helps a lot!!!
The thin stamped sheet metal plate and wide flat buna seal quit on mine and started leaking between the
plate and engine block ALOT!!!

Search for: 1956 machine shop oil filter adaptor plates

I've thought about making up a bunch of these and have enough material for 300+ units behind my CNC
Just never enough time and not quite sure there's enough of a market? For what could I sell them for?
Made this one from 6061T6 aluminum and 303 stainless steel. 5X thicker and much stronger!!
Hasn't leaked a drop since.

My gauge pod is done and working very well now
Time to spend more of the wife's money and replace the rear wiring harness. Old dry and brittle !!

All be well
Bobby

Your adapter would be of interest to me. Any thought on pricing if you decide to make more?
