1956 Hood cable broken

I’m sure this was covered in the past but can I get information on how to open my 56 hood in the event the cable should break

Also does anyone know if an emergency cable release can be installed in the event of the cable failure?

I installed one on the '57 I restored. I drilled a hole in the release lever, bought a few feet of 1/8" cable. Put a loop in cable end for release lever.Just ran it down the firewall where I could reach it easily from underneath.

CASCO sells a special tool for opening the hood from underneath the car. Though, if the motor quits on the road, and the OEM cable breaks when you need to access the engine compartment, good luck then.

I have owned my 55 Bird since 1987 and inspect my hood release cable often. I plan to follow your plan to install my own emergency cable hood release. I plan to have a secondary cable with T handle pull mounted separately on firewall inside driver foot pedal area. This is a potential serious issue if we cannot open the hood. I will send photos once I have installed this emergency cable.
