Hi all, I have a 56 tbird and the original tank is very rusty and has a lot of gunk inside and it won’t come clean. I tried someone’s suggestion of using kerosene but it didn’t help. I have another new gas tank for a 56 ford (not for a tbird) but I’m not sure what car it was originally for. The new tank has a small port hole on the top — is this something that can be plugged and used or would I need to purchase a new tank altogether? I bought a replacement tank off of Amazon but the quality doesn’t seem great.27CA17D9-DE3C-47F1-9804-5A5866541724.jpeg

That tank looks alot like my 1957 Fairlane 500 tank and the small pipe on the side near the top is for a vent. The Fairlane has a non vented fuel cap and thats what that pipe is for on the Fairlane.
