I've had this 56 since 1965. Drove it all through college and a little after. Life got in the way and other car projects came up so it just got parked in the garage in the late 1990's. Last week I decided to get it in the shop and see how hard it would be to get it going. I aired the tires up (they were stuck to the floor) and rolled it down to the shop. The engine was not stuck so that was good news. I pulled the plugs, changed the oil, stuck a new battery in it, and spun it over and watched the iol pressure come up. I figured the tank was all gummed up, so I dropped the tank to clean it out. I must have pit Stabil in it because it was clean as a new one. I sealed it anyways and after a couple of days to let it cure, I put some fresh gas in it, pored a little gas in the carb and it started right up. Topped off the transmission and took it for a short drive. I was suprised it actually ran and moved after that long. Now I remember why I parked it. It drives like a boat. Going around a curve is an adventure. so now my plans are an AOD, upgraded suspension, new wiring, and interior. The fun begins.View attachment 10179

Wow, your points and ignition lasted that long! How did it run? Congrats and have fun!
I was surprised too. It fired right up. But ran like a dog. It wouldn' t pull the hat off your head in a windstorm. Way back before I knew better, I had replaced the carb (a leaky old holley) with a brand new Edelbrock and that didn't make it run any better either. It still has the Load-a-Matic dist. that does not play nice with the Edelbrock. I am now installing a later dist. with the mech. advance. I assume that will make a world of difference. Hope to have it done tomorrow.
