Hi, I'm Chris thanks for having me. I'm building a 55, have replaced all the lower rocker panels, roughed in the body, now stuffing in a AOD hooked to a 347 stroker.
I'm planning to add a Uni-steer rack n pinion into the mix. I have a rear sump oil pan but just realized there's a small sump at the front of the pan. I understand that's where the oill pump pick-up is located, bummer! I was planning on putting my rack n pinion right a crossed from frame to frame at that location.
Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
Thanks for any info, Chris

Biddle, is it a difficult install the rack & pinion you refer to? I do all the work on my 55 Bird but this one looks potentially difficult.
I prefer to keep my original steering as it was all replaced with new but I cannot get the steering gear box rebuilt. It is a bit sloppy steering and adjusted about as tight as it can be.
Do you know anyone who rebuilds the original 55 steering gear box?

See if this company is still around: Redhead Steering Gear in Washington
Lars Corp also does them: https://www.larescorp.com/select/Ford/Thunderbird/1955/4.8L 292CID V8/Steering Gear/

Or if you want to do the work yourself
