does anyone know the correct routing of the speedometer cable? Does it go through the firewall or inside the car?

If it's like my 57 it goes down thru a hole on top of the trans tunnel just to the right of the gas pedal. Pull the carpet back and you should see a hole, there may be a rubber grommet in it, I think it's a special shaped grommet that the usual vendors can supply.
