I am trying to resolve a leak in the rear differential. It has been diagnosed to a pinion seal. The garage I take the ‘55 to can’t find the correct size seal. They started with the obvious: a seal for a ‘55 rear end, didn’t fit. They tried a few different seals and did some extensive internet searching: no luck. Their thinking is that it’s not the original rear end. Any suggestions as to how I should proceed? I have some skills but this is out of my league

Find the casting numbers on the third member and that should tell you what year it is
Thanks for the reply. Are the casting numbers stamped on the diff housing or are they on a metal tag attached to one of the bolts? This diff does not have a metal tag
