1955 Adding Roof Emblems to Hardtop

I have a hardtop that does not have roof emblems. Did some 55/56 hardtops not hard emblems? I do not have holes for the emblems. How are the emblems attached? I really don't want to drill holes for the emblems that have the posts and nuts. Any luck with the 2 sided tape holding them on since there are 2 pieces to the emblems?

Note on Portholes:
~All hardtops on the 55 thru 57 models are removeable hard tops.
~No '55 came stock from the factory with the portholes in the hardtops.
~Portholes were added to the hardtops with the production of the 1956 models. Many hardtops for '55s were converted to porthole tops.
~The stock '55 hardtop had a Ford Crest emblem on both sides.
~A non-porthole '56 top had no emblems placed on the hardtop.
~The 1957 T-bird hardtop was also available with or without portholes. The '57 non-porthole hardtop had the new Thunderbird emblem in a small disk; the same style emblem that is on the steering wheel of the '57.

I would say you have a non-porthole '56 top with no emblems on the hardtop.

I have never had to do what you are asking about since I have a 57 with portholes. I do know that Ford had Ghia emblems in the 1970's that came with a peel and stick backing that seemed pretty bullet proof. For you the best installation is to drill the holes. I realize that causes a lot of extra work to peel back the headliner for access from the back to attach the nuts to the studs. This would be best done when replacing the headliner. Not as good would be the following:
  1. Cut of the attaching pins on 25666 (Chrome retainer)
  2. With epoxy carefully glue 26662 (medallion) to 25666
  3. Get some of the two-sided backing (not sure what it is called), trace around the retainer, cut it out and mount on the retainer
  4. Carefully measure and stick to the top
I am not guaranteeing this will work, but it is worth a shot. Otherwise just leave the top the way it is and enjoy the ride.

Thank you for this document.

Very easy to see the differences here. I see that the D line tells me that I probably have a 1956 top - no emblems on non-porthole tops in 56. I have only 4 bows in the top not 5.

Thanks, this was very helpful. I think I'll just keep it like a 56, no emblems.
