From time to time, I see questions posted on forum websites that are easily answered by reviewing the owner handbook. This is just a reminder to people who are new to the Thunderbird hobby that your car's handbook is just as important today as it was when our cars were new. A careful review of it may save you trouble in the future. After that, a shop manual is also key if you plan to do most of your own maintenance.

Well, for example, it points out for new owners that the steering column telescopes which helps in getting a comfortable seating position. It also shows how to adjust the engine's valves, change spark plugs and points, raise and lower the convertible top, and lists all the car's refill capacities. It is also a handy size that fits in your glove box. All the T-Bird parts suppliers have them at reasonable prices.

It does sound helpful. I knew about the telescoping steering column but have yet to figure out how to turn the collar, I think mine is seized. Learned by trying how to raise on lower the top, so that would have been helpful. Overall, it sounds like a nice to have. I like the fluid capacitities, how to change spark plugs (and I assume proper gaps) and points. Some of that is in the shop manual but may be easier to read in the owners manual. Thanks

That book nice to have because it has more information than the owner's manual, however you have to be a member of the international to purchase it.

The Tech Tips book is meant to be used in addition to the original owner's handbook. They are both useful but have somewhat different purposes and are both worthy of being carried in your glove compartment. The newer book talks more about potential updates that weren't available when our cars were new. It definitely gives you to consider as you use and enjoy your car.

My steering adjustement collar was frozen when i first got the car. I couldn't turn it by hand but i found my wife's jar lid opener from dollar tree with a rubber strap gave me enough grip and leverage to break it loose without marking up the chrome. (it's lefty tighty/righty loosey sitting in the seat) after which a little silicone lube on the threads and no proble since. Go sparringly with the lube as the wheel adjustment is a compression fit so any on the column could be a problem.
