Commemorating the 85th. aniversary of the the Battle of Britain, this was taken at North Weald Airfield - a base that was used by two Eagle Squadrons (American pilots who joined the Royal Airforce prior to Pearl Harbour).

Nice picture, very historic! I see it made Photo of the Week. It is a Mk I Hawker Hurricane, a replica! It was put up at North Weald Airfield. During the Battle of Britain, they had Hurricanes there, followed by Spitfires.

I don't know how many genuine WW2 planes were put up on a post doing gate guard duty, The value of either fighter has gotten so high I wonder if other WW2 gate guards are replicas as well. Genuine ones probably have been taken down and turned into flyers by now. A flyable Hurricane is usually valued at over $2,000,000 now. Only 12 exist. Spitfires can be lower or higher. More desirable - top of the heap - but there are over 100 flyers to pick from.
