Question about oversea shipping of a 1956. Did you take any special precautions to secure the continental kit?

Never shipped a Tbird overseas, but only C1 and C2 vettes.
If you watch how these are loaded, you have no worries about the continental kit.
Also, every minor chip is documented with a picture, and you sign off.
The only problem I have ever had is that I always fill the gas tank with premium, and they always arrive empty. (Except one)
Just shipped a Ferrari from the East Coast to CA, and it was empty, but I took a picture and had the shipper make a note, just for me to save face.

Not having a 56 I'll leave it to others to comment on securing the continental kit. But if you are going to make an international shipment I would advise you to ensure that the trunk can still be accessed in case the Customs authorities at the port of discharge want to inspect the car for drugs/contraband.
If you are going to move the car by containerised shipment it will very likely be drained of any fuel before the being put into the container. This is because that avoids the shipment being classified as hazardous - something which the ship owner would charge an additional premium for.
