A bare-bones Thunderbird is still a nice car. The 390 is standard, the AM radio is standard, power steering and brakes are standard. I don't know exactly how many options were offered, but the ones I can think of include a rear radio speaker, an AM/FM radio which includes a rear speaker, a "Studiosonic" sound which is essentially a reverb, power windows, air conditioning, cruise control, power seats, a split seat that makes into a headrest, and then a convenience package that includes four-way flashers, power locks, and idiot lights. The door courtesy lights came with the landau I believe, and the convertible, and might have been an option on the hardtop. Right side mirror was probably an option. I don't know if there were optional wheel covers, but the fender shields might have been optional.

My own car (64) has factory A/C, but it has never worked since I've had the car. Also, someone removed the power rear-quarter windows and put in cranks. I want to eventually fix both of these, but even so it's a nice car.

im not shure why on my paperwork it keeps saying [special ] 300hp 390
Not sure about the "special." In 1964-65, there were no options on the motor that I'm aware of. Dress-up kit maybe? I don't think the 64-65 even had that. In 63, you could get three deuces, and in 66 you could get an optional 428.

Maybe the "special" promotion was part of the fact that Thunderbirds were used to promote other Fords. The Thunderbird was actually a Lincoln, but was never badged such because they wanted to sell them through Ford dealers. In fact from 1958 through 66 it wasn't even a Ford, just a Thunderbird. But you could buy a Galaxie, optioned with the "Thunderbird engine." Other Fords, such as the Falcon, were promoted as the "Compact cousin of the Thunderbird." People would go to Ford dealers to see the new Thunderbird, and generally go home in a new Fairlane or such. After all, the Thunderbird was double the price of any of the other cars there.

Is it possible it says special due to the fact is was ordered without air or power windows thus making it a special order. I have a 62 also have 62 manual and it seems power everything was standard on that year.

I've heard that there were "Z" code and "P" code engines, the latter being for police vehicles. Both pretty special in any event.

My power seats with the split (headrest) also reclines, passanger side only.

Yup, same with the manual seats in my '64. The passenger side reclines and has the headrest, the driver's side does not.
