The weatherstrip attaches correctly to trunk lid ,however it fits and seals better if installed on the body. I learned the hard way.

I used acetone didn't affect the paint, but removed the glue. Much patience needed

There is a weather strip adhesive remover in a spray can, I think 3M makes it. Easy to use, works great. Check your local parts store.
