I recently purchased a 1966 Thunderbird convertible and I’m in the process of getting the heater and AC sorted out. The car is a factory AC car, but both the heater and AC were unhooked from the engine bay side and missing several parts. I’ve got the service manual and the master parts catalog, but there are a few items I’m struggling to understand.

First, what does the temperature regulator valve mounted on the top of the heater/ac box actually do? My understanding is it gets manifold vacuum and regulated vacuum from the controller, and outputs regulated vacuum to the water valve in the engine bay. I saw a video on YouTube where the speaker mentioned he typically bypasses it entirely and hooks the “brown” vacuum line from the controller directly to the water valve. I’m sure Ford included this part for a reason, what is it?

Second, does anyone have a diagram of the heater hoses on a 1966 with AC? In 1966 the heated carb spacer was deleted, but from what I can tell from the Master Parts Catalog the car still had a Y fitting on the intake manifold to send water through a hose clipped to the choke. However, I can’t tell where or how this line rejoins the lines to/from the heater core.

Thank you!
