1966 Carburetor fuel inlet stripped

The fuel inlet is a little stripped. Do I re tap it or buy a self - tapping fitting. Thank You.

If it's not too bad you can get some plumbing Teflon tape and wrap the threads. The rolls for water pipes have red covers and the fuel tolerant is yellow. Should be right next to each other.
 
Replace the carburetor body. They are out there,and not really expensive.
You are dealing with a pressurized fuel connection that gets a lot of vibration. Do you really want to think about what will happen when it fails on a freeway?
 
I had someone cross thread mine and Daytona Parts fixed it and added the adapter for me. Haven't had problems since. Gottafish in Oregon can fix it as well.

I have had about 10 carbs restored/repaired using Ron and his son Tim at Daytona Parts out of New Smyrna Beach in Florida. I am close enough to hand deliver them and pick them up. They simply do outstanding work and can often repair seemingly impossible-to-fix damage. The yellow Teflon tape is fuel resistant - do not use the white stuff....but that is a stop gap at best; if something loosesns back up and you have fuel on a hot intake - well - it ain't good. Two things I never take shortcuts with on classic cars are fuel and brakes.
 
One side note here my friends, Teflon tape is not a sealant. It's a thread lubricant. And it's neither required or recommended for compression fittings.
 
Tim did the duals for my E a few months ago. They run great and there's a lot of power there. He helped me tweak them just right. I'm also fortunate that I can drive by there and deal with them personally. Now if someone would make an air cleaner that doesn't need a 2nd mortgage to buy!

Yup - TIm and Daytona Parts will go the extra mile when needed; here is my Carter carb being flow checked on their "test mule" engine in the back part of their shop. Its good that there are still some of these "old school" specialists still around that can help keep vintage cars on the road. test mule.jpg

If your original male thread still screws fine, you may want to use "red Loctite" (or eventually green) in the male thread and re-screw with not much torque. You won't need any washer as you won't be torquing too much. Wait until next day and it will hold well and be sealed (no leaks).
