1963 won't shift into third gear

My 1963 Thunderbird will not shift into third until I drive it a few miles and the thermometer shows it is warmed up to normal temperature.
Any suggestions on what the problem is and if it cam be fixed without pulling the transmission?.

Thanks for your thoughts about dried O rings. How major a job is it to replace them. Does the transmission need to be removed to do this? - Jim B
 
Same labor as doing a rebuild. Or try a can of trans x
