1963 Speedometer color is red on 70 MPH+

Hello all, came across a set of gauges that came with my bird. Not sure why they would have, as mine are in and working(aside from the dash lights, which I would love some help with!!!)
But my question is, why are half of the numbers red? Was this ever original on any version?? Seems like a lot of effort to go in to paint just that….

They're aren't red from the factory as far as I'm aware of or on my '63.

On your dash lights, if none work it is often the dash light dimmer part of the headlight switch causing the problem
