1962 stainless trim strip

I am trying to understand the stainless trim strip that goes the full length of the car. Most 1962 have the trim. Some don’t. Why and which is correct for a stock 1962? Thanks Dave

I have a 62 convertible. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one without the trim. There’s a standing seam that that trim covers. I can’t see how the fenders would look without. Someone may be painting it.

I believe that's aftermarket. I've owned close to 10 '61-63 birds and never had one with that trim.
