I have smoke coming out of my stock 1962 390 oil dipstick. There’s also light oil film coming out of oil filler tube. I have a closed pvc system . No draft pipe. Ideas please. Dave

Have you checked the pcv valve. The gases are sucked in the engine in the base of the carb. It's a one way valve so it could be jammed up/closed or the tube or pipe work blocked.

So, you got me curious. I'm not sure I understand the meaning of "closed PCV system" . Since this engine didn't come with a PCV system, who installed it. Where is it connected to and where is it vented to. Even a properly working system can be overcome by excessive blow by. Do you have any pictures by chance?

1962 was a change over year. My 62 had a road draft tube that simply vents gasses from the back of the engine block down a metal tube under the car. I modified mine with the correct tube & hose connections & pcv valve. The only other mod was to drill a hole in the carb base plate that had a spout already cast into it but wasn't drilled through. Hence some cars were half readied but maybe some of the other component parts weren't available to complete a pcv system. Could have been the state the car was delivered didn't require it. From 63 all cars had this pcv system fitted & a more intricate system 66 onwards.
