1961 Rear axle seal replacement difficulty

I have rear axle fluid leaking out of the backplate/axle union as seen from under the car.
I read the procedure in the shop manual; it doesn’t seem too daunting. Does anyone have any tips/wisdom for this procedure?

I did both side last year. Straight forward. Need room enough to slide the axel out. Went to Oreilly for a free loaner slide hammer. Of course safety first.
