1957 power steering turning noise

My power steering growls when turning no matter what. I am familiar with them doing that when low on fluid but my fluid level is OK.

Growling can be due to air getting into the system. Look in the reservoir and see if the fluid seems particularly foamy. If it does you may have a air getting in. Some people have said small leaks/pinholes on the suction side hose let air into their system creating noise. You might also pull the top off the reservoir and see what the filter situation is. They can be run without a filter without issue. Here is a link to a video showing the filter and insides. There's a small possibility the noise is due to the wrong fluid. If you do take the lid off you can suck out the old fluid in the reservoir and put Ford Type F ATF in it and see if that changes anything.
