My '57 t-bird has the factory 312 Y-Block engine (rebuilt) and I had the factory Holley 4150 carburetor rebuilt twice. Too much trouble with the fuel bowls leaking and car would not idle. Also rebuilt fuel pump. After weeks of lost time, switched to a new Edelbrock 1406 carb. My question is about hood clearance...I know I need low profile. Has anyone made this switch and what air cleaner assembly & filter did you use ?

I am considering the Edlebrock for my 55. Do you have a spacer under the existing stock carb?
Yes, the original Holley 4150 carb had a thin spacer (factory). The parts store sold me a spacer adapter to go with the new Edelbrock 1406 carburetor, however, the bolt pattern was not consistent with my original 312 Y-Block intake manifold. So, I left the original factory spacer from the Holley on top of the intake manifold and the new Edelbrock 1406 bolted perfectly to it. Hope that helps you.

You should be able to use the 57 air cleaner. The carb heights are the same at about 3 1/4 inches. I am using an Edl 1404, same body size. If the cleaner base hits things on the carb top, like the choke cover or fuel inlet, you can get rings in various heights to raise the cleaner a bit. Then you need to carefully check hood clearance. Clay or Play Dough works great. They are available in plastic or aluminum. Here is an example. Good luck. https://www.amazon.com/Spectre-Performance-4954-Cleaner-Riser/dp/B004AJ3306/?tag=thunderbirdforum-20
