1956 door hinge repair

Drivers side top hinge pin is very worn need to replace. Problem is the cage nut holding the back bolt just turns, can't loosen or tighten.. need suggestions on how to fix it.is there access thru the vent opening?

If you jack the car up and shine a light between the inner fender and the kick panel , towards the back of the hinge box you should see lots of under coating , if you use a heat gun and scraper you should be able to scrape enough away to find the cage nut. A concern to be aware of. RUST! Many times it is not the hinge pin but actually the hinge box that has rotted away over time. Usually the floors are also rotted in the footwell . I only speak from experience. I had the same issue and I ended up replacing the entire floor and reinforcing the hinge boxes… I hope this helps. Also, If you open the door and lift it from the bottom does just the hinge move or does the floor and hinge box move a bit as well. If you are not sure stop by a body shop and have them look at it. My problem is the top hinge not the bottom. This car was near rust free, one small hole in trunk and one hole in bottom of right quarter
