Hi my 1955 Tbird wouldn't start one day. Seemed wasn't getting fuel. I rebuilt carb except for needle and seat. It ran once rebuilt but did exactly same thing when parked. I checked gas tank for debris etc, seemed ok. I have an electric fuel pump before mechanical and it's pumping gas. I rebuilt mechanical and still won't start. It squirts a little bit of gas out of carb nozzles but not a lot. Fuel filter and screen clean. It was pumping approximately 4.5 psi out of mechanical fuel pump. I'm thinking maybe needle /seat sticking or float level not right? Car kinda fires but won't start. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance

Will it start by squirting a little gas directly into the engine. PS don't squirt and crank, squirt a little gas then crank . If it starts and you can keep it running by continueing to squirt gas, then it's definitly the carb. Maybe a bad carb to manifold gasket?

Is your gas tank cap vented? If not, take cap off and try to start.

Yes it's vented, thank you though. I'm thinking needle and seat sticking. Gonna hit with some air when I get a chance

Depending on the age of the needle and seat modern gas will degrade the rubber tip and it will stick closed. Been there, done that.

Yes I'm thinking and hoping that's it, thank you. Rebuild kit came with new different style. Gonna pull carb back off and see what it takes to use new style

My bottom line is that carb is crap. replace it with a new 625 demon and the car will perform beyond your dreams. If it's a restored car just keep it in a box for the next owner

Yes but the vacuum advance on distributor would not work properly. Trying to not put a bunch of $ into it. The teapot carb isn't very old and is in good rebuilt shape. I'm hoping needle and seat works. Was just wondering if anyone had the same symptoms and if needle and seat were causing same symptoms
