I've been working on the non-working speedometer and found that the spring clip was damaged that connects the speedo head to the cable. I ordered and received another one. However, I believe there was a 1" or so plastic sleeve that the spring clip was suppose to be seated in order to reach the main cable and would make it long enough to reach it's destination in the speedo head- before I was able to analyze the problem (not to mention become a contortionist under the steering wheel multiple times to reach it, I could have sworn there was a plastic sleeve that connected the cable to the spring clip- I may have ptsd from working on this but anyone have experience with replacing the spring clip and this plastic sleeve- am I mistaken about the sleeve? Thanks for your assistance!

MAC's has the speedometer cable connector spring clip that you are looking for.

Yeah, I think I just need to replace the whole cable and connectors- outdated parts not being replaced. The plastic insert was designed to seat in the cable at the speedo end of the cable well as a bridge to the spring clip that seats in the speedometer. It was in my cable and connections but I've misplaced it in the process or it fell into the back-dash area- I'm still looking for it in the meantime. Just curious if anyone else had the nos part or experienced this apparently old original part design. Thanks for your input.
