I have the seat out of the car and want to sand blast the frame and repaint but the assist springs look bad so I have 2 on order. My question is do I have to take the seat frame apart to swap the spring or just compress to replace?

Have a shop manual I was just looking for a simple answer.
Nothing about car restoration is simple
Your time spent in research and finding the right information is priceless
You may want to take the seat to an upholstery shop that does class and antique cars
Money well spent

Just take it to a professional upholsterer. It will be money well spent. Sometimes it's best to farm out projects before digging yourself in too deep.

I was talking about the 2 springs for power seat assist just popped them out with a screw driver and fingers.
