Got my bird back yesterday! The shop misplaced the 3 original pan head screws that hold the license palate holder. I found a bolt with the same size and threads, it’s an oddball size, it does not fit anything at the local hardware store. Anyone know how to reference part # 39050-S ?

I am not home to research this part. If you look in the parts book under the part number of the bracket, you will find the fastener listed with the number and description of the fastener with the length and thread pitch of the item. this may be a fine or SAE thread that most hardware stores do not carry.

I will check my fastener book tomorrow and see if it has a description of the machine screw.

I have researched your fastener. Ford part number 39050-S, That fastener is a pan head slotted machine screw 1/2" in length. The illustration shows Phillips head screw, however the part number is for a slotted screw. Just a note, the parts book is for service parts. These may not always be the same parts that are used on the assembly line. If it is in fact a Phillips head screw, that part number would be 50517-S. both are 1/4" machine screws with 20 threads to the inch which would be coarse or USS thread. I hope this helps. Dan

"One of the 'odd' size screws that Ford used were the #12 size fasteners used primarily to hold window cranks in place and in a few other spots depending on year." Other than that most of the fasteners are hardware store items.

I\m on my way to find #12's, hopefully someone has them...

had to make a trip to an Ace located half hour away, they have 5 differnet 12-24 machine screws, they had no washers. I ordered the mounting kit for the brackets from one of the Thunderbird supply houses but couldn't wait to drive the car. I got my license plate mounted with 12-24 5/8"
