Rear end height is 28+ inches (floor to mid tail light). Isn't this shackle inverted or does it sometimes come this way.? What's a good, safe proceedure for putting it back to original height?, ... jack/jackstand placement, etc. Screenshot 2025-09-03 171215.png

Yes, the shackle is inverted. I understand that a pry bar can be used to flip it back into the position where it belongs. I have read that some owners used this trick to raise the ride height when the springs started to sag with age.

This picture shows the proper placement of the rear shackle.

Just had my springs ('55) rebent. Cost about $70 each including bushings. You might want to look into a suspension shop. As Lionel said those shocks look like they could use a refresh.

Thanks for the reply... I was able to invert (revert) them back into place as you described. Raise and place a jack stand on frame 2 ft in front of the rear tire, use a bar to reset the shackle position, (I used a tire iron and my leg muscles) , place a jack under the leaf spring u-bolts area of the axel and hold the axel at that height, place a couple of 2x4s under tire, lower the jack under the axel, the springs revert and stabilize. Then remove the jack stands. This lowered my rear stance from about 3" overall. As usual the first one takes 45 minutes, the second one 15 minutes. Thanks again.!
