My ‘55 is lacking the outer glass wipe/window fuzzy and I have a replacement ready to install. The glass is down all the way but needs to either be removed or slid down more, beyond stop(s) for adequate clearance for the wipe strip installation. Can this installation be performed by unbolting the power window motor and mechanism or must the window be removed? Any help is much appreciated.

Not sure what part you are talking about for sure but if it’s the door pillar weatherstrip it is possible to get the pillar out without taking the window out but I wouldn’t recommend it. It is best to take the window out. The pillar has to come out to properly install the weatherstripping with the small rivets. You need a solid metal plate to put in a vise to hold the rivets in while you pound the back of the rivets. Not an easy fix but worth it. Someone replaced this on my ‘55 but put the rivets in backwards and not tight. Ended up chipping the top corner of the window ip pretty bad.

I know the part, the "fuzzy" or "hairy" strip that runs horizontally just inside the window channel at the top of the door, the purpose of which is to brush off debris as the window goes up and prevent debris from falling into the door cavity when going down. I know this because I spent 3 frustrating days trying to get a power window back on the track after the regulator seemed to come apart, the subject of my August 22 post here.

I can tell you from that experience that you can loosen the regulator at the bottom that will allow the window to drop down and give you more room at the top of the door. The trick will be to keep the rollers on the regulator in their channels because, depending on your forearm and hand size, it is very difficult to get them back on. Mine still aren't right and on top of all that now my pass side window will only go up, no matter what switch I hit in either direction. Good luck!

Thank you for your sound advice! Was hoping that I would have an option other than removing the glass to install that outer glass wipe! Will follow your advice and give it a try!
