I am a new 2003 Bird owner (last Monday). It thinks that I am always going East. Does anyone else have this?

John,
This is from page 12 of the 2003 owners manual:

Transmission PRNDL indicator:
Displays the gearshift positions. If
an “E” character is displayed or
flashing, this indicates a
transmission malfunction and may cause damage to your transmission.
Contact your dealer immediately.

It was 14 years ago but during the 2003 production there was a recall about the transmission fluid... it needed an additive for the early 2003 units. If you go to the Ford dealer ask them if the recall was ever performed on your Thunderbird. If yours was built after the recall the correct fluid would have been installed at the factory and yours would not have been subject to the recall.
