I canvassed several places to sell my 2002 Thunderbird with 30,000 miles about 4 years ago. I tried several online brokers, Carvana, etc.. Carmax gave me the best price by several thousand dollars, no hassle and I walked out with a check for over $15,000 in about an hour.

I sell most of my cars myself but just didn't want the hassle with lowball offers and tire-kickers this time around, nor strangers coming to my house. If you're not looking for absolute top retail dollar price, and want less trouble, consider this approach.

That was right after Covid when the lots were empty and no cars at auctions. I know someone who sold their truck back to the dealership for more than they paid. That's not happening now. It still avoids the other issues you mentioned, but the top dollar days are over.

Yes, in fairness that was during the used car crunch and that has passed....I traded in my 74,000 mile, 2013 Tundra at the time for $1,400 less than I paid for it new. Crazy era...
