I have a 1972 alternator # 15V 55A D2SF 10300 AA NEG that I am restoring to concours condition.
Why does it have a red stator between the housings.?
Is that the original color for that alternator?
If not, what is the original color.? Thanks, Paul

You're not going to get as many responses with a vague title like "1972 Thunderbird alternator"

If sounds like you are selling a part. Your title has been revised.

I'm old enough to have worked on them before and I don't remember anything but gold or silver. Not saying red isn't correct, just unusual.

According to the site, the typical varnish color of the stator laminate is amber but a previous rebuilder could have used a different color.
